Liger!

 Hello Livejournal!

I am a horrible poster. I honestly think to myself at various points every day "I should update my Livejournal!" and then I don't. Anyway, I am updating now, and I guess that's all that matters. Here we go (in no particular order):

Let's see... the Limp for the Cure on Sunday went as well as can be expected. Factoring in the walking I had to do from the subway stop to the start of the race, I managed about 20 blocks for the cure. Before I could get too far into Central Park (and thus far away from the subway that would get me home) I called it quits, and headed for home. The group I was with was very understanding, so I didn't feel too bad leaving them to finish without me. I judged my leg health very well, I must say. By the time I got home, it was throbbing fairly severely from overuse, but after some slight stiffness yesterday, it is fine today, so I didn't stress it too much.

As for the walk itself (what little I did of it) it was actually pretty entertaining. A real sort of party/festival atmosphere, and lots of survivors (denoted by special pink t-shirts) present. Not everyone had received the pink t-shirt = survivor memo though, as a lot of teams had their own t-shirts with messages and logos present. One of the craziest messages was spotted on a sign by our trusty Team Captain, Kristin. I am likely paraphrasing, but it basically read "Together we can make a difference, separately we will perish alone." WTF? Way to uplift, random Breast Cancer group!

Also, the sheer number of teams named "So-and-so's Breast Friends" and "Such-and-such's Bosom Buddies" was insane. Somewhat cute, but insane. It also gave me the urge to come up with really inappropriate team names for next year. Something along the lines of Tor for Tits! or Babes for Boobs! or even Marching for Melons! That right there is the reason I will never be team captain.

So, other than the breast cancer walk, my weekend was really quiet. Which was good, because I had a horrible week last week. Just horrible. Nothing major happened, but there were a lot of little things that piled up. Seriously, every day last week contained something that sucked. This week is already tons better in comparison.

Work-wise, I finished up an edit and have started a new one. I love first edits -- everything is fresh and shiny and new. I don't hate additional editing rounds if they are necessary, but they tend to go slower for me, because it is a retread of stuff I have already looked at once. So yay for first edits! As far as submissions go, I really need to get caught up. I have a stack of them at home that I am slowly plowing through, but I need to move faster. I also have some dreaded rejections to send out. If I can get those done by the end of the week, it will take quite a load off.

Speaking of work stuff -- I know this is at least partially supposed to be a work blog, and I realize I have talked very little about it. Does anyone have any questions they want to ask me? About Tor, editing, procedures, process, likes, dislikes -- whatever. I will answer what I can, quite happily. If you would rather not post a question in the comments, feel free to e-mail me at: heatheryvonne AT gmail dot com. Be advised that questions e-mailed to me may be answered/posted on my blog, although I will of course keep the sender's info completely anonymous.

In conclusion, write back soon!

Do you look for authors in contests?
Hi Heather,
I just found your blog and was wondering if you ever request authors from any contests you judge?
Thanks,
andical

All-righty. I have a question. :)

What is the ideal submission for YOU for the Tor paranormal line? Not the submission-packet-wise (like if they use TNR or whatever), but the actual story itself. What floats your boat and makes you squee like a fangirl? :)

Thanks!

- PS - I am friending you because of your comment on the combover and Harry Pye. Srsly.
